Geriatric Care Worker Policy

Care Worker's Policy

This policy outlines the criteria, responsibilities, and conduct expected of EYEMATES Geriatric Care Workers employed for home-based senior care services.

1. Programme Implementation

The EYEMATES Geriatric Care Service will be carried out by EYEMATES in association with the People’s Welfare and Social Development Charitable Society (K-689/05).

The program ensures that both organizations have the right to implement, monitor, and supervise the work carried out by the geriatric care workers, safeguarding the client’s health and safety.

2. Qualification and Training Requirements for Care Workers

  • Qualifications:

Care workers should possess one of the following or the above qualifications: General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM), Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery (ANM), General Duty Assistant (GDA), and a Diploma in Geriatric or Palliative Care. In the absence of these qualifications, individuals with Pre-Degree Course (PDC)/Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) with experience in patient care, senior care, or palliative care can also be considered.

  • Training:

Selected care workers will undergo training to ensure they are well-prepared for geriatric care responsibilities. The training will include induction procedures, updates on healthcare knowledge, and awareness of new healthcare policies within the government system. Workers who are not pre-trained by EYEMATES will receive spot training to meet the required standards.

3. Document Requirements

All geriatric care workers must submit the following documents before being considered for assignments:

The address mentioned in the Police Clearance Certificate and Reference Letter must match the one on the ID Proof.

4. Supply of Care Workers

EYEMATES will prioritize supplying care workers who have been previously trained by EYEMATES and are listed on the approved trained worker’s list. In cases where no trained worker is available, EYEMATES may consider other workers meeting the educational qualifications listed above. These workers will receive spot training to ensure they meet the program’s requirements and adhere to EYEMATES’ standards.

5. Assignment and Employment

·         Need Assessment: No work will be assigned until the specific needs of the client are assessed and confirmed by EYEMATES.

·         Short-term Assignments: All work assignments are temporary and should be considered short-term target-based engagements, not permanent employment.

·         Assignment Document: Each assignment for personalised care work shall be documented in an Assignment Document, which must be signed by both the Care Worker and the Supervisor/Manager. This document will specify the duties assigned, start and end dates, the status of the assignment upon completion, and the reason for its conclusion. The Assignment Document shall be retained in the Care Worker’s file alongside the signed Agreement. No Assignment Document shall be required for services such as Hospital Assistance, Outdoor Companionship or Part-Time Services.

·         Nursing Supervisor Oversight: Every assignment will be monitored by a Nursing Supervisor authorized by EYEMATES. The care worker is required to follow the instructions provided by the supervisor.

·         Daily Reporting: Care workers must report to the supervisor daily via phone or video conference. Failure to report will result in negative remarks on their record.

8. Conduct and Client Interaction

·         Complaint Policy: Any complaints from clients or their families will be taken seriously. Negative remarks will be recorded if a complaint is substantiated.

·         Agreement: Workers must sign a one-time tripartite agreement with EYEMATES and the People’s Welfare and Social Development Charitable Society             (K-689/05) at the initial stage of employment.

  • Applicability of Agreement: This agreement is applicable only when the Care Worker is actively assigned to an assignment and performing their duties. Once the Care Worker has completed or been discontinued from the assignment, and if they do not agree to any new assignment, the rules outlined in this agreement will no longer apply to them. However, any implications of noncompliance or misconduct during the assignment period will continue to be enforceable and applicable even after the assignment has ended.

10. Reporting to Authorities

When required, a copy of the agreement, along with the worker’s details and submitted certificates (including registration/license, if applicable), will be provided to the local police station and/or Local Self Government to comply with regulatory standards.

By upholding these guidelines, we strive to provide compassionate, respectful, and professional care that honours the trust placed in us by our clients and their families. Let us work together to create a supportive environment for our elders, ensuring their safety, comfort, and dignity at every step.
