Empowering Lives through Education; Edu Help Programme 2025
On 28th May 2025, EYEMATES FOUNDATION, in collaboration with Kottayam District Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (KTDNP+), successfully implemented the EDU HELP Programme, a socially significant initiative aimed at supporting children affected by HIV/AIDS. This transformative event was made possible with generous sponsorship from De Care Vincentian Social Services and Kerala State Financial Enterprises (KSFE).
The Need and Vision
Children affected by HIV/AIDS often face not just medical challenges but deep-rooted social stigma, economic hardship, and psychological distress. The EDU HELP Programme was conceptualized as a response to these multi-dimensional issues. Its vision: to ensure that no child is left behind due to circumstances beyond their control, and that every child has the right tools and encouragement to stay in school.
Programme Objectives
The core goals of the initiative were:
- To distribute essential educational materials such as school bags, umbrellas, and notebooks to 50 children.
- To promote school attendance and continuity in education.
- To build self-worth and belonging in young lives.
- To conduct an anti-drug awareness session, nurturing values of responsibility and resilience among students.
Highlights of the Event
The event took place at CSC Hall, District Hospital Campus, Kottayam, and began at 11:00 AM. It was inaugurated by Dr. Vidyadaran, Deputy District Medical Officer, and presided over by Dr. Suresh, RCH Officer.
Dignitaries who addressed the gathering included:
- Dr. Akhila C.S., Medical Officer, ART Centre
- Mr. Shiju John, Chairman, EYEMATES Foundation
- Mr. Ousepachan Antony, Technical Advisor, EYEMATES
- Fr. George Pallikkamyalil VC and Br. Alan Thankachan, De Care Vincentian Social Services
- Representatives from KSACS and civil society
A highlight of the event was a powerful awareness session on drug abuse, led by Mr. Saji Pathiyil, Retired Sub Inspector of Police. The session engaged both children and parents in discussion, and concluded with a collective anti-drug pledge.
Impact
Each child received:
- A durable school bag (sponsored by EYEMATES FOUNDATION)
- A sturdy umbrella (provided by KSFE)
- A set of notebooks (sponsored by De Care Vincentian Social Services)
Beyond material relief, the event served as an emotional anchor, reminding each child that they are seen, valued, and supported. Parents expressed deep gratitude, and several called for such initiatives to be repeated regularly.
Financial Stewardship
The total programme budget was ₹75,000, with ₹37,323 spent directly by EYEMATES FOUNDATION. All other contributions were provided by sponsoring organizations. This transparent and efficient execution underscores the Foundation’s commitment to accountability and impact-driven planning.
A Model of Collaborative Action
This initiative illustrated the strength of public-private partnerships. The coordinated efforts of medical professionals, social workers, NGOs, and community leaders culminated in a holistic support system. The programme did not merely distribute supplies—it delivered dignity, empowerment, and hope.
Conclusion
The EDU HELP Programme 2025 stands as a beacon of what compassionate collaboration can achieve. As we look to the future, EYEMATES FOUNDATION reaffirms its mission: to nurture vulnerable communities through research, support, and empowerment. We express heartfelt thanks to our partners, volunteers, and every individual who made this journey meaningful.
Let us continue to educate, uplift, and empower—together.
